Didier Castell-Jacomin est un pianiste atypique au caractère bien trempé (Eve Ruggieri). Il commence l’étude du piano à 4 ans. Sa formation tout au long de ses années d’études lui fera rencontrer Gyorgy Cziffra et Catherine Collard. Après un bref passage au Conservatoire National de Nice où il rencontre le Maestro Roger-Luc Chayer avec lequel il donna le concerto K.414 de Mozart avec l’Orchestre des Solistes Méditerranéens, il part compléter sa formation musicale à l’École Internationale de Piano (CIEM Mozart) en Suisse et en Italie sous la direction du Maestro Fausto Zadra.
Castell-Jacomin enregistre pour les labels Calliope, Cristal Records Classic et plus tard pour Integral Classic avec laquelle il œuvre actuellement. Son enregistrement “Regards” reçoit le “Maestro” du magazine national français “Pianiste” en 2012. Des villes telles que New York, Berlin, Paris, Londres, Bruxelles et Amsterdam accueillent le concertiste dont les interprétations de Mozart sont acclamées par la critique.
À l’instar des découvertes contemporaines de Lavoisier, c’est de l’eau, de la terre et du feu que contiennent les œuvres sur cette production. Une eau qui fait s’écouler immuablement les allegros, un terroir qui donne aux rondos cet aspect agreste, et le feu dont Mozart ne parvient pas, dans les Fantaisies, à masquer l’ardeur! Trois éléments que sert avec bonheur cette interprétation aérienne d’une fluidité remarquable... Tel le forgeron qui sculpte le fer pour en faire une épée, Castell-Jacomin forge la note avec passion et fougue alors qu’à l’oreille, on ne retiendra que l’écrin de velours.

Born in Marseille, Didier Castell-Jacomin took up the piano at a very early age. At the age of 10 he met G. Cziffra with whom he took lessons in Senlis for two years. In 1982, he has been admited in Rennes Conservatory in the class of Joel Capbert. After obtaining his rewards in piano, musical theory and sight-reading at the Nice national Conservatory, he met Catherine Collard and stayed with her to study during two years in Nice and St-Maur-des-Fossés (France). In 1989 he entered the prestigious International Piano School, CIEM Mozart Foundation, directed by Maestro Fausto Zadra in Lausanne (Switzerland). His meeting with the Maestro radically changed his conception of music, and the piano in particular.
In 1995 he did perform at the international Festival in Valencia, Spain. The same year, he took part in the first International Festival of Classical Music in Nice. Since 1996 Didier Castell-Jacomin has given innumerable performances, both in his native France and abroad: Italy, Netherlands, Monaco, Norway, England, Germany and in the United States. He also performed Mozart Concerti with Nice soloists Orchestra in 1991 under the baton of Maestro Roger-Luc CHAYER, further on he has been conducted by J.F. MANZONE, Werner STIEFEL (Baden-Baden Philharmonic), Joris BARTSCH BUHLE (SKB Orchestra Berlin) and Fausto ZADRA.

Life in the early years
It was at the age of four that Mrs Ravel was his first music teacher, this was in Nice. She introduced him to her piano and thanks to her encouragement and that of his parents he continued his studies at the conservatoire in Rennes and consequently in Nice.
In Senlis he met Georgy Sziffra when he was only eight. For two years he had the privilege of his tuition.
Catherine Collard came into his life during a summer apprenticeship in Aix-en-Provence in 1978. He could continue to have her education in Nice as well as in St-Maur-des-Fossés. This great artist really taught him the perseverance to overcome the technical problems and to reach for what is called interpretation.
It was, though, in 1989 that his view of playing the piano was completely turned upside down. One day it happened that he was early for his lesson of sight-reading, at the conservatory with Mrs. F. Chaffiaud. So he waited behind the door. He could hear sounds coming from the room where he was to have his lessons. He pricked his ears and to his great surprise he recognized the Fantasy of Schumann, performed in a masterly way. Cautiously he opened the door and he saw his teacher of sight-reading at the piano. His astonishment grew, to see and hear at that very moment a teacher of sight-reading playing so extraordinary! He knew then and there that no one but MrsChaf fiaud could give him the keys to that approach to the piano. She has then taught him privately for a full year. Towards the end of this period she confessed to me that she had her Maestro Fausto Zadra to thank for this approach to music.
Mrs Chaffiaud then introduced Didier to him. He was admitted at the École Internationale Fondation CIEM Mozart in Lausanne in Rome, under the direction of Maestro Zadra. For him this was really both a musical and an emotional turn. This man gave Didier what he was mostly looking for in this world: the means to express himself through music and in particular through the piano. Didier owes everything he knows now to Fausto Zadra and to his assistant Mrs Anne-Marie Tabachnik. After the decease of Fausto Zadra Didier continued his search in the direction Maestro Zadra had pointed out to him, in order to reach as Didier CASTELL-JACOMIN close as possible for the interpretations he wanted to defence, while making a firm stand for each composition he came across.
Music career
Continuing his way he was happy to play in the Berlin Philharmonic, with the soloists of the Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Joris Barth-Buhle; in the New York Carnegie Hall (recitals) and together with the Forte String Quartet in 2008; in the Cooper Great Hall (NYC); Yamaha Artist Services (NYC); Minneapolis-St Paul, (St. Thomas Hall); in the Philharmony of Baden-Baden with the Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Werner Stiefel.
His many contacts took him to the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam; to St. John’s Smith Square (UK); Théâtre de l’Athenée in Paris in 2009, that performance is very dear to him since it was presented by Mrs Eve Ruggieri. Quite recently, 2009-2012, He gave a series of recitals in Derlon Theatre in Maastricht, the Netherlands, in an avant-garde play. This was quite a unique experience; He found himself on stage with actors for six days a week for 6 weeks on end. Various festivals gave him confidence, such as: Gstaad, Switzerland; the summerfestivals in Nice, with the Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Jacques-Francis Manzone; Valencia, Spain; “C’est pas Classique” in Nice, where he was so lucky to play with his friend Liza Kerob, super soloist of the Monaco Phiharmonic Orchestra, to mention a few.
His first symphonic concert was in 1991, in Nice (France) under the direction of Roger-Luc Chayer, conducting the Nice Mediterranean Soloists Orchestra in Mozart concerto K.414.
He also gives as many Master Classes as possible, depending whether he meets the right people. This brought him around to teach students at Duke University, New York and at St. Thomas in Minneapolis.
He once took advantage during a tour in the USA, even before he played his interpretation of Schumann’s Carnaval, the most important work of his impressive repertoire, to elucidate the meaning he wanted to give this work, though standing firm for the values indicated by Schumann. Of course it was self-evident for him that he wanted to record a selection of the repertoire.
He gave everything for his first CD which was released by CALLIOPE in 1999, the contents of this CD was dedicated to the divine Mozart (Concerti K.414 and K.415) with the quartet consisting of soloists of the Chamber Orchestra of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. This recording was the outcome of his notions after having studied for ten years next to Maestro Zadra, the unsurpassed Mozart interpreter. This CD was awarded the prize of the TV channel “Muzzik”.
The following year, also with CALLIOPE, He wanted to record a recital of various pieces of Mozart, the famous Sonata in Do Majeur, as well as the two Fantasies. He was so lucky to play with the Quartet Joaquim, with whom he had played de Concerti K.414 and K.415 in the original version in the mediaeval University Centre of Nice.
From here, the label CRISTAL RECORDS CLASSIC has given him confidence in the course of his travels and in 2009 he recorded a Chopin recital, (POLONIA).
In 2010 the annual magazine PIANO (by La lettre du musicien) offered him to record a CD solely dedicated to Russian composers (TENDRESSE RUSSE) and to be inserted in the 2011 edition. He did accept that proposal with pleasure.
In 2010 he got the idea to record a CD with only music from female composers, thus he could now record at the famous TELDEX studio in Berlin. The label INTÉGRAL CLASSIC recently sent him the papers to sign for this recording, which will be released in October 2012 and which he shall present in France in November next in Salle Cortot. This program drew the attention of concert organizers and will travel among others to Berlin, Hamburg, Paris, Nice, Toulouse, Maastricht, New York and Tokyo. It is with a great pleasure and modesty that today, he proposes to you to (re)discover these women of exception through this sound testimony.

Biographie
Didier Castell-Jacomin commence à l'âge de 4 ans l’étude du piano. Il rencontre György Cziffra à Senlis à l'âge de 11 ans, puis est admis au conservatoire de Nice ou il en ressort diplômé en 1988 des classes de piano, solfège et déchiffrage. En 1988, après avoir obtenu son baccalauréat au lycée Masséna à Nice, il étudie à Saint-Maur-des-Fossés avec Catherine Collard, puis il rencontre le pianiste Fausto Zadra (es). Il sera admis dans son École internationale de Piano, Fondation Centre International d'Études Musicales (CIEM) Mozart à Lausanne et à Rome pendant douze ans.
En 1991, il interprète le concerto K.414 de Mozart pour la première fois1 lors de deux concerts d'amitié France-Québec, à Nice, sous la direction du chef d'orchestre québécois Roger-Luc Chayer qui a qualifié Castell-Jacomin d'artiste « sculptant les notes de musique comme un ferblantier sculpte le fer »2.
Des salles telles que le Carnegie Hall (New-York) en 2000 et 2008 avec le Forte String Quartet3, le Concertgebouw (Amsterdam) en 2000 et 2001, la Philharmonie de Berlin ainsi que la Philharmonie de Baden-Baden entre autres, ont accueilli le pianiste durant ces dix dernières années pour des prestations publiques dans le cadre de tournées. Le pianiste quelle que soit la salle qui l'accueille, ne s’économise jamais sur la qualité de ses prestations et donne le meilleur de lui même afin de servir au mieux les œuvres qu'il interprète4.
En 1999 Didier Castell-Jacomin enregistre sous le label Calliope les concertos de Mozart K.414 et K.415 avec le quatuor des Solistes de l'Orchestre de chambre du Philharmonique de Berlin. Le pianiste à enregistré, depuis, 3 autres CD, un récital Mozart (label Calliope), un récital Chopin (label Cristal Records Classic) ainsi qu'un CD de musique russe Tendresse russe (label Cristal Records Classic).
Caroline Haffner, directrice générale du festival « New Year Music Festival » fait appel au pianiste en 2009 pour interpréter (entre autres) un concerto de Haydn (année Haydn). Lors de son concert au théâtre de l’Athénée à Paris en octobre 2009, Ève Ruggiéri fait la présentation de son enregistrement Polonia (recital d'œuvres de F. Chopin).
Piano 24, revue annuelle de La Lettre du musicien, confiait à Didier Castell-Jacomin l'enregistrement d'un CD de musique russe Tendresse Russe, offert à ses lecteurs, encarté dans le numéro 24 en 20105.
En 2010, il se consacre à l'étude d'une série d'œuvres de femmes compositeurs et fait la rencontre de l'arrière-petite-fille de la compositrice Mel Bonis, Christine Géliot, dépositaire de toutes les œuvres de Mel Bonis. De cette rencontre naît un enregistrement consacré aux femmes compositeurs que le pianiste a conçu en juillet 2011 dans les studios Teldex à Berlin. Cette même année le compositeur Florent Gauthier publie une œuvre 6 chez Aedam Musicae qu'il dédie à Christelle Abinasr et Didier Castell-Jacomin. Ce dernier, fera la création de cette œuvre en 2012.
